SKUAST-K conducts entrepreneurship awareness programme on sericulture
Srinagar, Nov 20: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir organised a one-day entrepreneurship awareness programme on Sericulture – A Potential Agro-based Enterprise at Govt. Degree College, Kreeri Baramulla.
A statement said that the programme was organised by SKUAST-K’s College of Temperate Sericulture, Mirgund in collaboration with Govt. Degree College Kreeri, Baramulla. under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises, Govt. of India with an aim to sensitize and build an entrepreneurial mindset among the students by developing their skills.
Dr ZI Buhroo, Assistant Professor and Program Coordinator from CoTS, SKUAST-K, Mirgund highlighted the potential of Sericulture in UT of J&K. He briefed the participants about various entrepreneurial opportunities in the sericulture industry viz. mulberry nursery raising, disinfection, chowki rearing units, cocoon craft making and value addition through the processing of mulberry fruit Dr Syed Farhat Iqbal Qadri. Assistant Professor, Division of Cocoon Crop Production CoTS, SKUAST-K, Mirgund threw light on entrepreneurship development in sericulture and allied sectors. Prof Kowser Jan Principal GDC, Kreeri said the Seri-Enterprises could serve as an excellent mode for employment generation and transformation of the rural economy.
