Srinagar, Mar 26: SKUAST-K's Division of Livestock Production and Management conducted a training session on backyard poultry and an input distribution programme for the tribal population of Dignibal in Ganderbal.

The event witnessed participation from 85 farmers belonging to the tribal community.

Prof Mohammad Tufail Banday, Dean of the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences, graced the occasion as the chief guest, while Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to the Vice Chancellor SKUAST-K, was the guest of honor.

During his address, Prof. Mohd Tufail Banday emphasised the importance of backyard poultry production in ensuring nutritional and economic security for rural populations, particularly the tribal communities. The training session provided farmers with insights into poultry rearing practices and housing requirements.

Prof Azmat Alam Khan elaborated on the Central Government Schemes available for the tribal community, including the tribal sub-plan component of the All India Coordinated Research Project on poultry, funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR). Subsequently, 85 poultry units, along with critical inputs like feed, were distributed free of cost among the farmers.
