SKUAST-K commemorates World Veterinary Day 2024

Srinagar, Apr 27: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kas hmir (SKUAST-K) Saturday celebrated World Veterinary Day 2024 at the Veterinary Faculty, Shuhama, highlighting the theme “Veterinarians are Essential Health Workers.”

This annual global event honours the vital role of veterinary professionals in safeguarding animal health, human health, and the environment.

The daylong celebration witnessed participation from veterinary scientists, para-veterinary professionals, research scholars, undergrad and postgrad students, and school children from nearby schools. Activities included an awareness rally, flag hoisting, unveiling of “Vets Vision 2024,” a quiz competition, theme-related lectures, and initiatives like village and school adoption for animal production and health interventions.

Addressing the event, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir Prof Nazir A Ganai highlighted the significant contribution of veterinarians worldwide in safeguarding the health of animals, humans, and the ecosystem. “SKUAST-K is globally known for its supportive learning environment and for nurturing a skilled and resilient Veterinary Workforce capable of meeting present and future challenges. The theme of World Veterinary Day 2024 aligns with our dedication, initiatives and efforts towards a healthier and more sustainable future,” he said.

Col SK Dahiya, in his address, hailed SKUAST-K’s initiatives towards One Health, emphasizing the need to strive together to create a brighter future where animals thrive under the care and expertise of veterinarians.

The valedictory function of the 20th Annual Convention of the Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice (ISACP) on “Insights on latest developments in Companion Animal Practice and healthcare management” was also held, with over 200 delegates from across the country participating in the three-day event.
