SKUAST-K, C-DAC Kolkata join hands for artificial intelligence in Agriculture

Srinagar, Oct 29: Director, Centre for Development of Advance Computing (C-DAC), Kolkata Dr Ch AS Murty and his team of 5 scientists had an interaction meeting with Vice-Chancellor, SKUAST-K to collaborate on applications of Artificial Intelligence and Sensors in agriculture. The joint R&D Projects shall be focusing on Robotics and Drone technology for automation of the agri-operations especially in our Niche crops like Saffron, Walnut and Apple.

The programme shall also focus on the Block Chain technology for traceability in trade and marketing of the agri-products from J&K. The meeting also focused on the applications of Cyber-Security in the digital agri-platforms like Agri-stack, and also in e-marketing platforms of agriculture.

The two teams agreed to work together for India AI Mission in agriculture, at the National level. The programme shall bring other stakeholders and knowledge partners on board to firmly lay the basis of true tech-driven agriculture to boost productivity, bring in GAPs (good agriculture practices) for export quality produce, reduce the cost of production by improving the resource use efficiency viz. labour, water, inputs, fertilizers, chemicals etc.

The C-DAC team along with the scientists from CMERI (Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute, Durgapur and CMTI (Central Manufacturing Technology Institute), Bengaluru visited the A.I. Centre of the University and hailed the initiatives of the University. The team later visited the Saffron fields of SKUAST-K to have an on-field experience of the challenges to automation of the field operations.
