SKUAST-K adopts orphanage, launches ‘Kindness Initiatives’
Srinagar, Nov 19: In a heartwarming celebration of World Kindness Day, Department of Dean Students Welfare and NSS unit of Faculty of Horticulture SKUAST-K organised a series of inspiring activities aimed at promoting compassion, empathy, and community service.
The event held today was a resounding success, bringing together faculty and NSS volunteers to reflect on the importance of kindness in daily lives. This year’s celebration was marked by a significant initiative, “The Adoption of Orphanage” by the NSS unit of SKUAST-K. This initiative reflects a long-term commitment to the welfare of children in need, focusing on their educational, emotional and social development. The day began with an inaugural address by Dean faculty of Horticulture Prof. S.A.Wani who emphasised the importance of small acts of kindness in creating a” ripple effect of positivity in society”.
Speaking on the occasion, Chief Guest of the event Prof Nazir A Ganai, Vice- Chancellor SKUAST-K said, “World kindness day is a reminder of our shared humanity. This celebration and our commitment to the orphanage are steps toward building a society rooted in care and compassion.”
He appreciated the idea of installation of eco-friendly Bird Feeders in the campus. NSS volunteers presented the NSS song and a skit based on the human values and taking care of old age parents.
The day continued with engaging activities, including fun games for the orphanage children and a guided tour of the university campus. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dean Students Welfare &NSS Programme Coordinator Prof. Neelofar Banday, who expressed gratitude to all participants, volunteers and supporters for making the day meaningful and memorable.
Organizing Secretary of the Programme Dr Seemi Lohani said that the Department of Students Welfare and NSS unit of Faculty of Horticulture looks forward to “continuing this journey of kindness and invites the community to join hands in spreading the message of love, care, and humanity.”
