SKUAST-K achieves feat, secures 20th patent this year
Srinagar, Nov 5: SKUAST-Kashmir has achieved feat by bagging 20 patents this year so far making remarkable growth in the field of innovations.
In a statement, SKUAST-K spokesperson said that after adding the fourth mandate of innovation and entrepreneurship to the existing three mandates of teaching, research, and extension, SKUAST-Kashmir has seen a surge in innovations leading to earning of all forms of Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs)—patents, copyrights, designs, and trademarks.
It said with the aim to foster innovation and excellence in research and entrepreneurship development, the university has also set up a full-fledged center ‘ SKUAST-Kashmir Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship Center (SKIIE)’ on the main campus at Shalimar.
“Given to the relevance of these patents earned by universities, many of these are now available as commercial products & services. By recently winning a patent for a natural herbal capsule for diabetes care this year, SKUAST-Kashmir has created a history of bagging 20 patents in 2024. The patent has already been converted into a commercial product and is marketed as Diabetix. This patent and the other patents related to drug discovery reflect the growing expertise of varsity scientists in healthcare innovation,” the statement added.
