‘SKIMS Medical College & Hospital has always been at forefront in patient care’
Srinagar, May 5: Faculty Forum SKIMS Medical College clarified on the recent letter from NMC India with respect to MBBS seat recognition in respect of various colleges including of J&K.
In a statement, general secretary of Faculty Forum SKIMS MC said recently a news item was circulated on multiple media and social media platforms wherein the recent letter from NMC India with respect to MBBS seat recognition in various colleges of India, including J&K was discussed.
“But unfortunately, some statements written in these news items were published/telecast without confirming the facts from the concerned people, i.e. SKIMS Medical College & Hospital. The news item mentioned that the staff and faculty of this college were found lacking the requisite biometric attendance. But perusal of facts from the NMC Attendance dashboard www.smimsgan.nmcindia.ac.in) tells that the staff of this college have best attendance figures, with average in time of 8.37 am and average out time of 5.30 pm and are unmatched in the UT of J&K,” the statement said.
“Another misinformation presented in the news items was that very few surgeries had been performed by this hospital. Unfortunately, this statement has also been made without verifying facts. This hospital has performed 10680 major surgeries and 23145 minor surgeries in the year 2023-2024. Given the limited staff available in this hospital as compared to other big hospitals, it is a significant number,” the statement said.
“Another point presented in the news is that very few cytopathologies and serologies have been conducted by this hospital (1% & 5% of total OPD load respectively). The actual figures for both these investigations are quite high- 15533 cytopathologies (12.38%) & 49195 serology tests( 39.33%) and are quite good for any institution. On perusal of records, it was seen that this inadequacy in various parameters was not due to underperformance by the institution, but a typographical error during submission of data to NMC by the NMC cell,” it added.
“The staff and faculty of SKIMS Medical College & Hospital have always been at the forefront in patient care services as was evident during the COVID-19 pandemic when this small institution was one of the largest and best functioning COVID treatment facilities of the UT. It will always be our endeavor to continue the selfless service of the ailing humanity,” the statement added.
