Srinagar, July 5: In a much-needed respite from the sweltering heat, Kashmir experienced refreshing showers on Friday, bringing relief to residents who had been enduring an unusually hot spell over the past few weeks.

According to the Meteorological Department (MeT), Srinagar recorded a significant drop in temperature from a high of 35.7 degrees Celsius earlier this week to 34.2 degrees Celsius.

Other parts of Kashmir, including Anantnag, Baramulla, and Kupwara, also reported substantial decreases in temperatures following the showers.

The MeT has forecasted a series of weather changes across Jammu and Kashmir.

The detailed forecast includes intermittent moderate rainfall, heavy showers, and potential thunderstorms, providing relief from the scorching heat but also raising concerns about possible flash floods and landslides.

While showers were received in different parts of Kashmir, there were also reports of hailstorms from some parts.

July 6: There is a possibility of intermittent moderate rainfall at most places in J&K, with heavy showers expected at a few locations.

July 7: Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are likely at many places across J&K.

July 8-10: Hot and humid weather is anticipated, with brief spells of rain and thundershowers expected in scattered places in the Jammu division late at night or early morning, and similar conditions in a few places in the Kashmir division.

July 11-12: Scattered places across J&K will experience light to moderate rain and thundershowers.

The MET centre in Srinagar issued several advisories to caution residents about the potential impacts of the weather in the coming days.

Flash floods and landslides: There is a risk of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides at vulnerable locations, particularly on July 6.

Waterlogging: Low-lying areas may experience temporary waterlogging.

Thunderstorms and Lightning: Moderate thunderstorms and lightning might occur at a few locations.

The MET Centre Srinagar said that there were generally cloudy conditions with rain and thundershowers in parts of Kupwara, Tanghdar, Handwara, Bandipora, Kangan-Sonamarg axis, Tangmarg, parts of Budgam, Pahalgam, and parts of south Kashmir.

Areas in Poonch, Rajouri, Ramban-Banihal axis, and some parts of Reasi are experiencing similar weather.

Intense showers with gusty winds are expected to occur briefly.
