Shopian, Jan 14: Residents of  Poshpora village in south Kashmir's Shopian district rued the lack of  spacious road in the area.

A stretch branching off from the main road in Tukroo connects several village including Nazeenpora, Adoora and Aglar Fruit Mandi via Poshpora village is too  narrow to allow smooth traffic flow, particularly during the harvesting season.

According to the residents, the commuters face immense difficulties due to the narrow road.

"We witness frequent traffic snarls along this small stretch. The problem worsens particularly during the harvesting season and winters", said Ishfaq Ahmad, a resident and convenor All India Youth Federation (J&K Chapter). He said that a vehicle had  to stop to allow another pass.

" We have been demanding the widening of road for the last  many years, but to no avail", said Ishfaq.  Altaf Ahmad, another resident highlighted the hardships faced during emergencies.

"The narrow road makes it nearly impossible for ambulances or other emergency vehicles like fire trucks to pass smoothly. In critical situations, this delay can cost life and property, he said.

Altaf also said that farmers had to struggle to transport their produce during the peak harvesting season.  "The road also serves as  a vital link, connecting to Fruit Mandi Shopian", he said.

The residents appealed to the authorities to widen the road to alleviate their sufferings.
