Shopian police recover Rs 20 lakh from cyber fraudsters

Shopian, Aug 14: In a major success against online scams, Shopian Police have recovered Rs 20 lakh defrauded from citizens during the current year and returned the amount to the rightful owners after legal formalities.

The district police received over 250 cyber fraud complaints in 2025.

“Acting on directions of SSP Shopian Anayat Ali Chowdhary and under the supervision of ASP Rameez Rashid Bhat, the Cyber Cell swiftly investigated, froze fraudulent transactions, and ensured timely recovery”, a police spokesperson said in a statement.
