Shopian police attach property in drug peddling case
Shopian, Dec 26: In a major breakthrough against the drug menace, Shopian Police attached a double-storey residential house valued at Rs 14,76,579 lakhs along with Rs 6 lakh in cash.
A police spokesperson said that the property belonged to a notorious drug peddler, Farooq Ahmad Koka of Melhura Zainapora.
“The action was taken under section 68-E read with 68-F(1) of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, as part of the ongoing anti-narcotics drive in the district”, said the spokesperson in a statement.
According to the spokesperson, the attached property is linked to FIR No 36/2024 of Police Station Zainapora and was executed in the presence of duly constituted police team and the Executive Magistrate, ensuring full compliance with legal protocols.
He said that during the course of investigation it was found that the property was acquired through illegal means.
“The property was prima facie acquired from illicit trafficking in narcotic drug and psychotropic substances by the owner”, reads the statement.
The spokesperson said that the local residents of the area have hailed the police action.
