Shopian locality rues damaged alleys, drains
The damaged streets and drains in Jan Mohalla locality, located a short walk away from Gole Chowk, the business nerve centre of Shopian town, presents a dismal picture of neglect and apathy by authorities.
According to the residents, foul smell emanating from the uncovered drains pervades through the area.
“Despite being located in the heart of town, the alleys and drains are lying in disrepair”, said Mohamed Younus Malik, a resident. He said that they brought the issue to the notice of Municipal Council Shopian (MCS) several times, but nothing had been done so far. “The authorities are paying mere lip service”, Malik said.
Many residents said that pedestrians had to hold their nose while passing through the area to avoid the overpowering stench emanating from uncovered drains. “We are appealing to the MCS authorities to repair the streets and drains forthwith”, said the residents.
