Shopian launches Springshed Climate Adaptability Project

Shopian, Sep 20: The District Administration, under District Development Commissioner Shishir Gupta, has launched the pioneering Springshed Climate Adaptability Project, recently approved by NABARD—the first of its kind in Shopian.

The initiative aims to conserve natural springs, recharge groundwater, ensure sustainable irrigation and drinking water, and preserve water-related cultural heritage in the Zainapora block.

DDC Gupta stressed that the project’s success hinges on community participation, capacity building, and a convergent approach involving Horticulture, Agriculture, Rural Development, and Jal Shakti departments.

Officials, including SDM Zainapora, LDM Shopian, DGM NABARD, and other key officers, attended the launch, marking a significant step toward water security, livelihood enhancement, and sustainable development in the district.
