Shopian Administration acts tough against illegal mining, seizes 2 vehicles
Shopian, Oct 12: To review the efforts of enforcement departments and agencies in curbing illegal mining in the district, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar visited Darazpora and Heff villages in Shopian today.
The visit aimed to assess the on-the-ground situation in the area following an overnight crackdown, during which authorities seized two vehicles involved in the unauthorized excavation of minor minerals in Heff.
During his visit, the Deputy Commissioner emphasized the district's commitment to preserving its natural resources and ensuring sustainable mining practices in accordance with established norms.
He urged the public to report any suspicious mining activities to the dedicated District Control Room and assured that stringent action would be taken against those violating mining regulations.
The visit also aimed to strengthen on-the-ground law enforcement against malpractice by certain individuals. The Deputy Commissioner directed the formation of a joint team of civil and police officers to monitor illegal mining in the district.
While interacting with locals, the Deputy Commissioner addressed the traffic congestion in the Trenz area caused by road bottlenecks. He directed the immediate removal of encroachments at Darazpora to facilitate smooth traffic movement during the annual apple harvesting season.
The Deputy Commissioner was accompanied by ADDC Dr Nasir Ahmed Lone, ADC Dr Zakir Hussain Faaz, and district officers involved in enforcement activities, including the DMO, Executive Engineer, Tehsildar, and police officers.
