Kupwara, May 8: Tangdhar sector in north Kashmir's Kupwara district came under Pakistani shelling for the second consecutive day, injuring a civilian and damaging dozens of houses.

Locals of the area told Greater Kashmir that Pakistani Army resorted to indiscriminate shelling at about 2 am and continued till 6 am in the morning resulting in injuries to a local youth while as fifteen houses were partially damaged in Baghbella and Shamspora area in Karnah.

The shelling caused widespread panic, forcing families to seek shelter in underground community bunkers. A health official at Sub District Hospital (SDH) Karnah told Greater Kashmir that the hospital recieved an injured person early morning who was provided primary treatment at the facility and was later referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Handwara for specialised treatment.

He identified the injured as Ravees Ahmad, son of Ghulam Ahmad Sheikh, resident of Hajinar, Karnah. He said that the injured had recieved minor injuries but as a precautionary measure, doctors referred him to GMC Handwara.

Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Karnah Javid Mirchal who is stationed at Karnah said that he was having a close eye on the situation after Pakistan Army resorted to indiscriminate shelling in the civil areas, resulting in dmage to over two dozen villages. He said that people were being taken to safer places to thwart any potential eventuality.

"I have talked to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and apprised him about the situation. I told him that construction of substantial number of community bunkers across Karnah were the need of the hour to thwart human loss," he added. Pertinently, people across the border town have been staying in the community bunkers making their life miserable.
