Shawaal moon sighted in Jammu and Kashmir, Eid tomorrow: Grand Mufti
Srinagar, April 09: Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Wednesday, 10 April 2024, as Shawaal moon has been sighted in Kashmir, announced Grand Mufti, Jammu and Kashmir, Nasir ul Islam. Earlier, Jamiat-ul-Ulama Isna Ashria Kargil, Ladakh also announced that Eid festival will be celebrated in Kargil tomorrow.
Talking to the news agency KNO, he said that enough evidences were received from various parts of J&K about sighting of the crescent.
He said that the consultative committee headed by him (Grand Mufti) with members Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Moulana Rehmatullah Qasimi, Moulana Abdul Lateef Alqandi, Ghulam Rasool Hami and ulemas from Jammu and Chenab valley have concluded that Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Wednesday.
The sighting of the crescent moon marks the end of Ramadan and the beginning of Eid ul-Fitr, one of the most significant festivals in the Islamic calendar.
The sighting of the Eid crescent holds special significance for Muslims, as it marks the end of a month-long period of fasting, prayer, and reflection. Eid ul-Fitr, often referred to as the "Festival of Breaking the Fast," is celebrated with joyous gatherings, special prayers, and feasting with family and friends.
In neighbouring Pakistan, the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, announced that Shawaal moon has been sighted in various parts of the country, and that the country will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr tomorrow.
However, the Shahi Imam Jama Masjid Delhi has said that the crescent was not sighted in India except Kerala. Hence, Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in India on Thursday, 11 April 2024. Eid moon was also not sighted in Bangladesh.
