Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals Srinagar introduces MIGS procedure in Kashmir
Srinagar, June 15: In a significant advancement for eye care in the Kashmir Valley, Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals Srinagar has successfully performed the region’s first Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). The procedure was conducted under the supervision of Dr Birjees Hakak, a leading glaucoma specialist at the hospital.
The introduction of MIGS marks a major leap in glaucoma treatment for patients in J&K. Known for its safety and efficacy, MIGS uses microscopic incisions to reduce intraocular pressure with fewer complications and a faster recovery time compared to traditional glaucoma surgeries.
“Until recently, patients had to travel to metro cities like Delhi or Mumbai to access MIGS. We are proud to offer this advanced glaucoma treatment here in Kashmir, making it locally accessible for the first time,” said Dr Birjees Hakak after the successful procedure.
Glaucoma, often called the “silent thief of sight,” can lead to irreversible vision loss if left untreated. Dr Hakak stressed the need for increased awareness and early diagnosis through regular eye check-ups to detect the condition before serious damage occurs.
With the launch of MIGS at Sharp Sight Eye Hospitals, Srinagar has become the first hospital in the Valley to offer this advanced glaucoma care. The initiative underscores the hospital’s commitment to delivering globally benchmarked eye care and easing the treatment burden for local patients.
This milestone is expected to significantly enhance treatment outcomes for glaucoma patients in Kashmir, improving both access to care and quality of life.
