Shariah Law shouldn’t be touched, altered anyway: Basharat Bukhari
Srinagar, Jan 27: Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) senior leader and former minister Syed Basharat Bukhari today commended the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU) for meeting with the JPC to express their concerns and suggestions on the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill.
In a statement Bukhari said “The J&K’s Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema (MMU), delegation met the JPC in Delhi and put forward their concerns, objections and suggestions on the proposed Waqf Ammendment Bill. MMU members have fulfilled their religious duties/responsibilities and for us Muslims around the globe the Sharia is sacred and should not be alerted and touched through any way or legislation."
The former minister, while expressing surprise on absence of any engagement of NC Parliamentarians with JPC on the issue so far, hoped that, the two elected MPs from the ruling National Conference (NC) from central Kashmir and south Pir Panchal seats must also take time and meet the empowered committee to register the concerns of the community in J&K about the proposed amendments.
"Both of the Hon’ble MPs being Muslim themselves and having religious sway in their personal capacities as well, have extra responsibility to represent the community's apprehensions vociferously on the proposed amendments in the JPC and stand up against all such amendments which are against the Shariah Law,” he said.
He said that if the two MPs haven't met as yet, they should do so swiftly so that a strong pitch is made against any possible interference in the Shariah Law.
