Shailendra Kumar reviews crop damage caused by rains across J&K
Jammu, Sep 3: Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Agriculture Production Department, Shailendra Kumar, on Wednesday convened a high-level meeting to assess the extent of crop damage caused by incessant rains and landslides across J&K.
The meeting was attended by the Directors of Agriculture Kashmir and Jammu, heads of allied departments, and representatives from SKUAST. Detailed discussions were held on reports of crop losses, soil erosion, and damage to agricultural assets.
Expressing concern over the hardships faced by farmers, Kumar directed immediate field assessments and preparation of comprehensive loss reports. He stressed mobilising technical teams, timely supply of seeds and critical inputs, and advisory services for crop restoration.
He also urged SKUAST scientists to work closely with the Agriculture Department and explore short-duration crop varieties for severely affected areas. Departmental heads were asked to coordinate with district administrations and prepare contingency plans.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, the ACS assured that every possible step will be taken to safeguard farmers’ interests and strengthen the agriculture sector in the Union Territory.
