Ramban, June 22: The Srinagar- Jammu National Highway (NH 44) remained open for two-way traffic of light medium and heavy vehicles. However, traffic congestion was between Ramban and Banihal sectors due to which traffic movement remained extremely slow on Saturday

Drivers and commuters said they remain stuck in traffic congestion at several places between Ramban and Banihal due to narrow road stretches. They said there are many under-construction road stretches. They further said zig-zag curves on both sides of tunnel T5, connecting Panthyal and Magarkote and Magarkote viaduct witnessing routine traffic congestion.

They said due to single-lane road stretches at Anokhifall, Digdool tunnel construction site, Ramsu, Hingni, Gangroo and other places are hindering smooth traffic flow during the peak hours daily.

Traffic said NH 44, remained open however they said vehicular traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles and due to single-lane road stretches at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria, Panthyal, Nagarkot, Shalgari, Nachlana besides poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri and Banihal.

Meanwhile, traffic Police headquarters issued a fresh advisory for Sunday stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions medium and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on either side of NH-44. Traffic authorities once again advised passenger vehicle operators, and commuters not to undertake journeys on National Highway 44, during the night hours due to apprehensions of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal sectors.
