Ramban, Oct 5: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for one-way traffic of heavy vehicles towards Jammu and Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) towards Kashmir on Sunday.

However, no LMVs were allowed to move from Srinagar towards Jammu.

Traffic officials said that though the highway remained open, vehicular movement was slow due to single-lane stretches at Thard, between Nashri and Dalwass, and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pather.

The breakdown of several heavy vehicles and the on-foot movement of nomadic families with their livestock towards Jammu also contributed to the slow traffic flow.

In view of the inclement weather prediction and a forecast of prolonged rainfall over the next few days issued by the Meteorological Department, traffic authorities advised commuters not to undertake journeys on the highway without confirming the road status from the Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, and Ramban.

Updates are also available on the official ‘X’ handle and Facebook page of the J&K Traffic Department.

Meanwhile, officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said that macadamisation work is underway on an uneven and undulating 250 to 300-meter stretch of road at Thard.

Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police, National Highway, Ramban, Raja Adil Hamid, is monitoring the ongoing macadamisation work at Thard.

To avoid congestion, Jammu-bound heavy vehicles are being allowed to cross the stretch in a regulated manner.

Till late Sunday evening, both macadamisation and regulated traffic movement continued simultaneously at Thard, officials said.
