Ramban, Sep 26: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for one-way traffic of heavy vehicles towards Kashmir and one-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) towards Jammu on Friday.

Traffic officials said that no Srinagar-bound LMV was allowed to move, though LMVs bound for Doda, Kishtwar, and Ramban districts were permitted.

Authorities said that vehicular movement remained slow due to single-lane stretches at Tharad in Udhampur, between Nashri and Dalwass, and at Maroog and Kishtwari Pather along the highway.

The movement was further hampered by the breakdown of heavy vehicles and the seasonal migration of nomadic families with their livestock towards Jammu.

“Despite the challenges, hundreds of vehicles crossed the Udhampur and Banihal sectors of the highway till late Friday evening,” officials monitoring traffic at Tharad, Udhampur, and Ramban said.

The traffic authorities said that the highway had not been fully restored at Tharad in Udhampur, where a 250 to 300 metre stretch was extensively damaged on September 2.

Currently, traffic is being managed on a regulated basis at the damaged stretch.

Meanwhile, commuters and transporters have been advised to strictly follow the daily traffic advisories and avoid undertaking journeys against the instructions.

Travellers have also been urged to check road status with Traffic Control Units in Jammu, Srinagar, Udhampur, and Ramban, or through the Traffic Police’s official pages on X and Facebook.
