Sgr-Jmu NH open for one-way traffic
Ramban, Sep 24: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for one-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles and heavy vehicles for Jammu on Wednesday, officials said.
The fixed cut-off timings have been put in place to regulate the flow.
Traffic authorities said vehicular movement remained slow due to single-lane traffic at several stretches, uneven road conditions at Tharad, breakdown of vehicles, and on-foot movement of nomadic families with their livestock migrating towards Jammu.
“Traffic is being managed on a regulated basis along the 250 to 300-metre single-lane stretch at Tharad,” they said.
Authorities advised commuters and vehicle operators to follow lane discipline and avoid unnecessary travel on the highway in view of nomadic herds.
The seasonal migration of families with livestock from the upper pastures of Kashmir to the plains of Jammu has added to congestion.
Officials monitoring traffic at Tharad and Ramban said the highway remained open for one-way movement between Qazigund in Kashmir and Jakhani in Udhampur.
Commuters have been cautioned against travelling against the advisory to prevent congestion, particularly along the Chenani-Nashri and Maroog-Kishtwari Patthar stretches.
