Sgr-Jmu NH open for one-way traffic
Ramban, Mar 5: Free flow of one-way vehicular traffic movement on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway was disrupted due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles, a single lane and a damaged road stretch at Dalwass and Mehar-Cafeteria in Ramban on Tuesday.
Road repair work at Dalwass also disturbed the pace of vehicles on the highway, officials said.
Traffic authorities said, “The highway remained open for one-way traffic for Jammu. However, the movement of traffic remained slow due to single-lane and poor road surface conditions at Dalwass, Cafeteria-Mehar, Panthyal, Gangroo, Nachlana, Kishtwari Pathar, Shalgarhi and various other locations during the day.”
The officials monitoring the regulation of traffic at Dalwass informed that hundreds of vehicles had crossed the Chenani-Nashri tunnel till late Tuesday evening.
They said that vehicles were being cleared on a one-way basis at Dalwass.
Following heavy rains on Saturday, multiple landslides, slush and boulders damaged the highway at several places between Nashri and Banihal.
After remaining blocked for two consecutive days on Saturday and Sunday, the highway was reopened for one-way traffic on Monday morning.
Meanwhile, the Traffic Department issued a fresh advisory for Wednesday stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, only one-way traffic would be allowed towards Kashmir from Jammu.
The officials advised vehicle operators and commuters to follow lane discipline as overtaking would lead to congestion.
They advised not to ply against the advisory or traffic plan due to single-lane road issues at many places between Nashri and Banihal.
