Sgr-Jmu NH open for 2-way traffic

Ramban, Nov 14: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic on Tuesday.

However, traffic authorities said that during the last 24 hours up to 5 pm on Tuesday, the highway remained blocked for 45 minutes due to shooting stones at Tunnel T2, Kelamodh, Ramban.

They said that the traffic movement remained slow due to the breakdown of a few heavy vehicles and due to single road stretches at Mehar Cafeteria, Magarkote, Nachlana, and due to poor road surface conditions at Dalwass, Nashri and Banihal tunnels.

Traffic officials monitoring the regulation of traffic in Ramban said that the highway remained open and hundreds of vehicles crossed the Nashri and Banihal tunnels till Tuesday late evening.
Officials at Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban said that the highway was open and vehicles were heading towards their respective destinations in Kashmir and Jammu in a regulated manner.

Meanwhile, the J&K Traffic Department issued a fresh advisory for Wednesday stating that subject to fair weather and road clearance, both Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply on both sides of the highway.

However, the passenger vehicle operators have been advised to prefer journeys on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway only during the daytime as the movement of nomads from Kashmir to Jammu might cause inconvenience to the commuters.

The commuters have been advised to undertake journeys on the highway only after confirming the status of the road from TCU Jammu, TCU Srinagar, and TCU Ramban.
