Ramban, May 11: The Srinagar-Jammu National Highway remained open for two-way traffic of Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and one-way traffic for Jammu-bound heavy vehicles on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the traffic department in its advisory for Sunday stated that subject to fair weather and road clearance, LMVs would be allowed to ply on either side of the highway.

“Heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Kashmir only, after assessing traffic and road conditions on Sunday,” officials said.

However, officials at Traffic Control Unit (TCU) Ramban advised vehicle operators and commuters not to undertake journeys on the National Highway without confirming the status of the road from TCUs of Srinagar, Jammu and Udhampur on Sunday.

Earlier on Saturday, traffic movement remained sluggish on the highway.

“The traffic movement on the highway remained slow due to movement of nomads and their livestock; slippery road conditions at construction sites and narrow road stretches at many places between Nashri and Banihal sectors,” traffic officials in Ramban, said.

“Single lane carriageway at Dalwass, Mehar-Cafeteria, Panthial, Nachlana, Shalgari, Kishtwari-Pathar and poor road surface conditions at many places between Nashri-Banihal sectors slowed down traffic movement,” they said.

“Despite slow traffic movement, hundreds of LMVs and heavy vehicles crossed the Nashri-Banihal sector for their respective destinations, without any disruption till late this evening. Heavy load carriers are heading towards Jammu in a regulated manner,” officials said.
