Ramban, Mar 15: Following incessant rains, vehicular traffic was disrupted due to mudslide at Dalwass, Chanderkote, and Mehar Cafeteria stretch of Ramban and Hingni area of Ramsu on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway on Saturday.

However, traffic authorities said the highway remained open for two-way traffic of passenger Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Jammu on Saturday.

Traffic officials said despite disruptions, hundreds of LMVs crossed the Chenani-Nashri and Banihal-Qazigund tunnel for their respective destinations in Srinagar and Jammu.

They said heavy vehicles allowed from Qazigund and Srinagar were heading towards Jammu in a regulated manner.

Senior Superintendent of Traffic Police, National Highway, Ramban, Rohit Baskotra told Greater Kashmir t6hat despite incessant rains since Friday evening, the highway remained open for two-way traffic of passenger LMVs and one-way traffic of heavy vehicles for Jammu.

However, he advised the passenger LMV operators not to undertake journeys during the night hours.

Baskotra advised commuters and vehicle operators to prefer journey on the highway during day time only due to the apprehension of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal sectors.

He said that earlier during the day vehicular traffic was halted for some time at Dalwass, Mehar Cafeteria for clearing accumulated slush and mudslides.

Baskotra said mudslides and stones were removed immediately and traffic restored on the highway.

He advised the commuters and vehicle operators not to undertake journeys of the highway without confirming the status of the road from Traffic Control Units in Srinagar, Jammu, Udhampur, and Ramban on Sunday morning.
