Sericulture Deptt flags off exposure tour for silkworm rearers
Srinagar, Jan 13: Director General, Sericulture J&K, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, on Tuesday flagged off the first batch of the 2026 exposure tour for silkworm rearers and farmers from the Directorate of Sericulture Development Department, J&K.
The exposure tour has been organised by the Sericulture Development Department, J&K, under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) in collaboration with the Central Silk Board (CSB), Government of India. The initiative aims to enhance the technical skills and practical knowledge of silkworm rearers by exposing them to advanced sericulture practices followed in leading hubs of the country.
As part of the approved programme, the participants will visit Mysuru and Bengaluru, where they will be provided free and unhindered movement to facilitate effective learning and interaction with experts, research institutions and practitioners associated with the sericulture sector.
The tour has been designed to offer first-hand exposure to modern and innovative practices in silkworm rearing, mulberry cultivation, seed production, disease management and post-cocoon technologies. The department expects that the knowledge gained will help participants adopt scientific rearing techniques at the grassroots level, leading to enhanced productivity, improved quality and increased silk cocoon production in the Union Territory.
The programme also seeks to encourage silkworm rearers and farmers to diversify into allied and value-added activities within the sericulture sector to supplement their incomes.
