Sericulture Deptt aims to boost silk production through outreach programmes
Srinagar, Apr 4: In a bid to revitalize the sericulture industry, Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director of Sericulture in Jammu and Kashmir, recently visited the Grainages of Saria Danger Pora in Bandipora district. The objective of this visit was to double the production of silkworm seed, mulberry cultivation, and cocoon production for the upcoming silkworm rearing season.
During his visit to the S.D. Pora Grainages, the Director assessed the ongoing renovation and upgradation work, which has achieved an impressive 80% completion rate. He also monitored the functioning of these Grainages, which play a crucial role in breeding and seed production, boasting a capacity of 150,000 disease-free layings (Dfls).
The Director inspected various mulberry farms and nurseries at S.D. Pora, spanning over 150 kanals with an annual turnover of 20,000 mulberry saplings. These farms are essential for providing the necessary foliage for silkworm rearing at the Grainages.
