Senior cancer specialist bags prestigious award

Srinagar, Nov 2: Prof Shad Salim Akhtar, senior cancer specialist was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Indian Cancer Congress being held at Mumbai.
This is the first time a cancer Specialist from J&K has been awarded with this prestigious recognition.

Dr Shad Salim Akhtar is the Chairman, Board of Directors at the Hakim Sanaullah Specialist Hospital and Cancer Centre, Sopore, a rural cancer centre in north Kashmir. He also heads the Dr Shad Salim’s Oncology Centre at Hyderpora, Srinagar. He is a founding member of the Kashmir Oncology Forum.
Dr Akhtar, was the founding Head of Department of Oncology (Cancer Care) at the Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, where he started the department in 1987. Dr Akhtar was trained at PGI, Chandigarh, the University of Edinburgh, UK, and at the BC Cancer Agency, Canada.

He has more than 40 years of experience in the field of cancer care and research.
Dr Akhtar will deliver a special oration at the Indian Cancer Congress on 3 Nov.
