Seminar on ‘Socio-economic transformation...’ PM Modi introduced historic changes for J&K welfare: Khatana
New Delhi, Nov 2: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha (nominated) MP Engineer Gulam Ali Khatana Thursday said that Jammu and Kashmir witnessed a surge in developmental activities under the leadership of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He stated this while presenting the keynote address at the two-day long national seminar on “Socio-economic Transformation, Inclusive and Sustainable Development.” The event was organized by the Dr Ambedkar International Centre, under the aegis of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India.
In his opening remarks, Khatana highlighted the remarkable socio-economic transformation that had taken place in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir following, what he said, “the historic abrogation of
Article 370 and Article 35A.” The discussion primarily centred around the significant improvements in socio-political and economic conditions, with a particular focus on the welfare of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Other Backward Classes (OBCs), and those residing along the International border.
BJP MP underscored the far-reaching changes that had been implemented to promote inclusive development and uplift the marginalized communities. On this account, he mentioned notable measures including political reservations for Scheduled Tribes and Other Backward Classes in local bodies, panchayats, and the assembly; ensuring their active participation in the democratic process. “Additionally, citizenship rights have been granted to West Pakistan Refugees, Gorkhas, Valmikis, and women who had married outside the state, marking a significant milestone after seven decades of Indian independence,” Khatana said.
He commended the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government for their commitment to the development of the region.
“The introduction of geo-tagging for local produce, such as saffron, Pashmina, Basohli paintings, and Basmati rice, has been a pivotal step towards enhancing the visibility and accessibility of these unique products, both within India and on the international stage,” BJP MP noted.
Khatana said, “The positive transformations have taken place in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering socio-economic development, inclusivity and sustainable progress in the region.”
