Ramban, Jan 19" Security has been intensified across the hilly districts of Ramban, Doda and Kishtwar ahead of Republic Day celebrations on January 26, with police, Army and CRPF stepping up checking, patrolling and surveillance on highways and sensitive locations.

Police, with active support from the Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), have launched extensive frisking and checking operations on the Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44), Batote–Kishtwar National Highway (NH-244), and other vital link roads. The measures are aimed at preventing any untoward incident and ensuring peaceful celebrations.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ramban, Arun Gupta, said that stringent security arrangements have been put in place across the district. “All necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of people and the smooth conduct of Republic Day events,” he said.

A senior police officer said an advisory has been issued directing all district officers, Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPOs), and Station House Officers (SHOs) to remain on the ground and maintain a high level of alertness. “Joint area domination exercises are being conducted by the Army, CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police, particularly in sensitive areas and higher reaches of the districts,” the officer said.

Village Defence Guards (VDGs) have also been roped in and deployed within their respective jurisdictions as part of the area domination strategy. All police nakas have been placed on high alert, while special nakas have been established along the National Highways and interior roads to check suspected vehicles and individuals round the clock.

Senior police officers further stated that all law and order units have been kept on standby, and mock drills are being conducted to ensure preparedness ahead of Republic Day. The drills are aimed at testing coordination among various wings of the police, including traffic, armed reserve, special units and emergency response teams, and include simulations related to crowd control, emergency evacuation and quick response to potential threats.

Security has also been strengthened at key locations such as parade grounds, government buildings, public places and major traffic junctions. Surveillance has been enhanced through increased patrolling, checkpoints and monitoring of sensitive areas. Traffic management plans have been put in place to ensure smooth movement during official functions and public gatherings.

The police have appealed to the public to cooperate with security agencies, follow traffic advisories and promptly report any suspicious activity. “Public cooperation is vital for ensuring a peaceful and incident-free Republic Day,” an officer said.

Republic Day marks the adoption of the Constitution of India and is celebrated across the country with official ceremonies, parades and cultural programmes. Authorities have reiterated that comprehensive arrangements are in place to ensure the safety and security of citizens during the celebrations.
