Security tightened across Kashmir
Srinagar, Nov 3: The security arrangements have been tightened across Kashmir, particularly in Srinagar district in the wake of the back-to-back attacks reported in different parts of the Valley.
The elaborated security measures are in place ahead of the five-day Jammu and Kashmir Assembly session scheduled on November 4. Besides the unprecedented security measures in place, security agencies launched some successful operations by apprehending various militant associates in different parts of the Valley during the past few days.
The J&K Police along with security forces arrested a hardcore terrorist associate linked with Hizb-ul-Mujahideen in Pulwama and recovered arms and ammunition from his possession.
In a statement, the Police said that on Saturday, during the investigation of the FIR No 224/2024 under Section 4/5 of the Explosive Act and 18 and 39 of the UAP Act of Police Station Pulwama, a joint team of Police, 55 RR of the Army and 192 Bn of the CRPF arrested a terrorist associate of Hizbul Mujahideen from Dangerpora, Pulwama.
“He has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Dar, son of Nazeer Ahmed of Tahab, Pulwama,” the Police said in a statement.
It said that the arrested Dar disclosed the location inside his shop where he had kept arms and ammunition.
“Accordingly, the joint team of forces raided the spot where they recovered and seized the hidden arms and ammunition including a pistol, a magazine with 12 rounds, and two live grenades,” Police said.
On October 29, 2024, a terror associate of Hizbul Mujahideen Danish Bashir Ahangar was arrested in the case.
“On his disclosure, further arrests and subsequent seizures were made,” the statement read.
On October 27, a militant associate was apprehended in the Handwara area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
The Police along with Army’s 22 RR and 92 Bn CRPF nabbed the militant associate and recovered arms and ammunition along with other incriminating material from him.
“Given the increase in terrorist attacks, the security agencies have intensified its networking and all the terror associates are put on radar and they are apprehended as soon as we receive the inputs about their movement,” a top official said.
The official said that a three-tier security system had been put in place around the J&K Assembly complex.
“We will put in place extra security arrangements in view of the address by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in the J&K Assembly,” a senior Police officer said.
Meanwhile, the random frisking points are being set up jointly by J&K Police and paramilitary CRPF at different locations and vehicles are properly checked while capturing the frisking in cameras as well.
“We deploy security personnel along with a vehicle randomly to any location at any time. The location of the troops is changed after an hour or two,” the Police officer said.
