Security heightened across J&K amid stepped-up preventive deployments
Srinagar, Nov 17: Security forces have intensified deployment across Jammu and Kashmir, particularly around vital installations, in what officials describe as a purely precautionary exercise aimed at reassuring the public.
Airports, railway stations, bus terminals, government buildings and other key locations have seen a noticeable increase in security in recent times.
According to senior officials, there is no specific input indicating any threat, but the administration has chosen to strengthen the grid to maintain public confidence.
“There is no significant input about any untoward incident. However, given the sensitivity and the movement of people during the winter season, we have upgraded our security posture. These measures are meant to instil a sense of security among the general public,” a senior security establishment official said here.
The Srinagar–Jammu National Highway, along with other major highways linking key districts, continues to remain under heightened vigil. Security agencies have established additional mobile checkpoints, resulting in random frisking of vehicles at multiple points across both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.
“Highways are always critical from a security standpoint. Our teams are conducting random checks to ensure there is no movement of suspicious individuals or material. The effort is to maintain smooth and safe travel for civilians,” he added.
People around reported intensified patrols and an increased presence of paramilitary forces. In some busy areas, security personnel were seen using handheld scanners and sniffer dogs as part of routine inspections.
Officials said that such precautionary deployments are commonly undertaken during periods of increased public activity and ongoing operations.
“People should not panic. This is preventive security. Our objective is uninterrupted normalcy across J&K,” the officer said.
