Jammu, Apr 9: Security forces and terrorists Wednesday exchanged fire, triggering two separate encounters in Udhampur and Kishtwar districts.

In Udhampur, Police said that two to three terrorists were trapped at village Jopher in Ramnagar. Contact with them was established during a search operation.

SSP Udhampur Amod Ashok Nagpure, while speaking to media, said, “This morning, Police received an input about the presence of a few suspected terrorists in Jopher under the jurisdiction of Police Station Ramnagar in Udhampur. Immediately the SOG Udhampur teams reached the spot and started a search operation. During the search operation, contact was established with the hiding terrorists, thus ensuing encounter. They opened fire on our teams which retaliated in equal measure.”

Following this exchange of fire, additional forces, comprising CRPF and Army personnel, were mobilised, SSP said, adding that more reinforcement was sent.

“During night hours, cordon has been strengthened and search operation will again be resumed,” he said.

Earlier, District Police Udhampur, in a post on ‘X’, said, “During a search operation by JKP and other security forces, contact was established with terrorists at village Jopher under the jurisdiction of Police Station Ramnagar in Udhampur. Two to three terrorists are trapped and the firing is going on.” Meanwhile, the officials stated that an exchange of fire with suspected terrorists was also reported in Chatroo area of Kishtwar. An official statement on this account with further details was awaited.
