Kupwara, Mar 21: Ahead of the Lok Sabha elections security arrangements have been bolstered significantly in Kupwara.

In an exclusive interview with Greater Kashmir Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kupwara Shobhit Saxena outlined the steps taken to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

"In anticipation of the election, we have implemented robust security measures," SSP Kupwara affirmed. "We have set up checkpoints across the district and have established strong coordination with Army, CRPF and other security agencies. We are ensuring a safe environment so that elections will be held in a cordial atmosphere and maximum turnout will be recorded in the district," he said.

"Police and Army are well prepared to thwart any possible attempt of disturbing peace. This year has been peaceful so far and our endeavour would be to keep the atmosphere peaceful throughout the year. With close coordination with the Army and other security forces, we are determined that cross border terrorism will not affect the upcoming elections," he said.

On being asked about the presence of any active terrorist in Kupwara, Saxena said that they keep on getting inputs about movement of terrorists.

Addressing concerns about public grievances and maintaining law and order, SSP Kupwara emphasised proactive initiatives. "We regularly host Public Darbars and Thana Dewas to address grievances," he noted.

"In January, the DGP JKP attended the first Public Darbar of Kashmir in Kupwara, promptly addressing numerous grievances on the spot. We remain steadfast in resolving public grievances effectively".

Offering insights into recent law enforcement activities, especially regarding drug-related and UAPA cases, SSP Kupwara provided significant updates. "In the past month, we have recorded 10 drug-related cases and six UAPA cases, dismantling multiple modules," he revealed. "We are vigilant against antisocial elements and are actively working to uphold law and order in the district."

With the elections drawing near, SSP Kupwara had a message for the public, particularly the youth. "I urge you to actively participate in the upcoming election," he emphasised.

"Our youth, educated and forward-thinking, embody the spirit of democracy. We are committed to ensuring your safety and security throughout the voting process. Your participation is pivotal for the advancement of our nation."
