Srinagar, Nov 20: The Inspector General of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Srinagar sector P K Sharma on Wednesday said that all the security agencies were working in close coordination to keep the situation under control.

Talking to reporters on the sideline of the inauguration of the cricket tournament, the IG CRPF said that everything was going well as far as the situation was concerned.

"I think all of us know about the situation. The situation is under control. Everything is going well as all the forces are working together. We are working with the police in a smooth manner," the IG CRPF told reporters.

The statement comes days after the J&K Lieutenant Governor (LG) Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting of senior civil, police officials and DCs, SSPs of Jammu Division to review the security situation in the region. The meeting was convened after back to back terrorist activities were reported across Jammu and Kashmir.

As many as eight terrorists were killed in six encounters in north, south and central Kashmir. The back to back gunfights between security forces and militants raised concerns about the terrorist related incidents. Post the encounters, the J&K administration also ordered a massive reshuffle of SSPs and SP level officers in various districts.

Meanwhile, briefing about the initiatives to remain connected with the local population particularly the youth, IG CRPF P K Sharma said that they have been organising back to back cricket and football tournaments from the last year.

"This year we started the second edition of the CRPF cricket tournament. The first edition was held last year. We want to connect with maximum youth and next month we will organise the football tournament as well," P K Sharma said.

He said the second edition of the cricket tournament will witness participation of 16 teams including 12 teams from Srinagar and two each teams from Budgam and Ganderbal district.

"The tournament will be played on a knockout basis. We had received requests from other teams as well for their participation in the tournament but we could not accommodate all the teams," IG CRPF said.
