The coordinated operations are part of a broader preventive strategy aimed at ensuring transparency, accountability, and legal compliance within the pre-owned vehicle and scrap trade sectors.

Police in Ganderbal conducted an extensive district-wide checking drive at various old vehicle sale–purchase units. Specially constituted teams from multiple police stations inspected documentation, verified ownership records, and scrutinised transaction registers maintained by dealers.

The focus of the operation was to detect irregularities, uncover potential misuse of vehicles, and identify transactions conducted without proper verification—points of vulnerability that could be exploited for criminal or anti-national activities.

In Kulgam, police carried out inspections across various locations, concentrating on scrap dealers and second-hand vehicle vendors. The drive aimed to verify the source of vehicles and ensure that all sales and purchases were duly documented.

During the raids, officers examined relevant records, vehicle components, and other materials, some of which were seized for further verification. Special emphasis was placed on vehicles bearing registration numbers from outside the J&K Union Territory, given their potential vulnerability to misuse.

In Shopian, police teams carried out a wide-ranging physical verification campaign at automobile dealerships throughout the district. Officers inspected vehicles present on dealership premises and cross-checked associated documentation, including sale, purchase, and ownership transfer records.

Authorities prioritised verification of the authenticity of transaction data and stressed the timely transfer of ownership to prevent vehicles from circulating with outdated or incomplete documentation. Dealers were sensitised about their role in safeguarding security by ensuring meticulous maintenance of records and compliance with statutory requirements.

In Awantipora, police officers—led by SDPOs and SHOs—visited all car dealerships within their jurisdictions to gather details regarding the sale and purchase of vehicles.

Anantnag Police today also carried out a comprehensive physical verification drive across the district, focusing on vehicles and the records maintained by various car dealers. The initiative is aimed at ensuring transparency in vehicle transactions and preventing any potential misuse of vehicles.

During the exercise, police teams physically inspected vehicles present at dealerships and scrutinised documentation related to the sale, purchase, and transfer of ownership. Special emphasis was placed on verifying the authenticity of transaction records, ensuring the timely transfer of ownership, and identifying any discrepancies that might lead to unlawful use.

The enquiry includes scrutiny of cases where individuals have purchased multiple vehicles, a pattern that could indicate attempts to obscure identity or intention. Officers ensured that proper buyer–seller verification protocols were being followed and emphasised the need for capturing Aadhaar information, phone numbers, and contact details of both parties.
