SEC tweaks schedule of Panchayat electoral rolls’ revision

Jammu, Dec 10: The State Election Commission (SEC), while tweaking (roll) revision schedule, has extended the date for filing the claims and objections in the Panchayat Electoral rolls up to December 20, 2024.

As per the revised schedule, now the publication of the final Panchayat Electoral Rolls 2025 will be made on January 15, 2025.

The schedule has been revised after the Commission noticed “huge gaps between the number of voters in the Assembly rolls vis-a-vis Panchayat rolls.”

A communiqué sent to all District Panchayat Election Officers (Deputy Commissioners) mentioned that the Commission had reviewed the latest weekly progress reports of claims and objections received by the districts along with the statistical analysis of electoral data Assembly electoral rolls vis-a-vis Panchayat electoral rolls besides status of punching of claims and objections by the districts.

“The analysis, the Commission has, reveals that progress of many blocks needs improvements as huge gaps exist between the number of voters in the Assembly electoral rolls vis-a-vis Panchayat electoral rolls,” it was stated while explaining the rationale of the decision to extend the date for filing the claims and objections up to December 20, 2024, and accordingly revise other stages of the schedule.

As per the revised schedule, the period of filing the claims and objections for additions, deletions, corrections and transposition in the Panchayat electoral rolls will be from December 11 to 20, 2024.

Special camps at the polling booth locations will be held on December 14 and 15, 2024.

Panchayat Election Booth officials along with Assembly Election Booth (Level) Officials (BLOs) will remain available at the Polling Booth locations with requisite forms and Panchayat rolls for guidance of the electors.

Disposal of claims and objections by EROs will be made on December 30, 2024.
