Scriptwriting, film direction workshop concludes in Jammu

Jammu, Nov 29: The Department of Mass Communication at Gandhi Memorial Camp College, Raipur, Bantalab, Jammu, organised a workshop on scriptwriting and film direction concluded today.

According to a press release, the workshop provided students with a deep dive into the art of storytelling through film. “Participants learned essential techniques in scriptwriting, screen structure, format, idea generation, scene description, and storyboarding. They also gained practical insights into both pre-production and post-production processes. Throughout the workshop, students had the opportunity to apply these skills by creating their own films. The final day featured a screening of the student-made films, demonstrating their growing abilities in narrative and cinematic techniques,” the press release said.

It added that a highlight of the workshop was how students independently chose filming locations and composed their shots, showcasing their creativity and understanding of visual storytelling.

Among the many impressive films produced, the best in terms of writing and cinematography were those by Rohini Rajput, Payal Thapa, Saksham Tickoo, and Mokshi Bhat. However, the standout project was a collaborative film produced, written, and directed by Ayaz and Adiko, with support from Amaad Shah. On the concluding day of the workshop, the college Principal, Prof Satish Talshi, praised the efforts of the department and commended the students for their creativity.

He emphasised the importance of such workshops in honing students' skills, which are essential in today’s fast-evolving media landscape. Perdeep Kumar Pandita, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mass Communication, highlighted the creative thinking required in scriptwriting and filmmaking.
