Ramban, Sep 15: Authorities on Monday lifted restrictions in most parts of Doda district, allowing schools and colleges to reopen and restoring broadband services, except in the Khara and Chilli Pingal areas, where curbs remain in place.

The prohibitory curbs under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) had been imposed on September 9 following widespread protests against the detention of sitting MLA and Aam Aadmi Party leader Mehraj Malik under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

SSP Doda, Sandeep Mehta, told reporters that the overall situation in the district had improved and was under control. He said that in the aftermath of the protests, 81 individuals were detained for questioning, of whom 70 were later released.

Cautioning the public against spreading provocative content, SSP Mehta warned that “strict legal action will be taken against anyone posting videos, statements, or material that hurts religious sentiments.” He urged citizens to maintain peace and cooperate with authorities.

Meanwhile, schools and colleges reopened on Monday after being closed since August 26 due to heavy rains and as a precautionary measure during tensions. Officials said broadband services have been restored across the district, except in the Chilli and Pingal areas.

Sources added that restrictions are still partially in place, and the situation continues to be closely monitored both on the ground and across social media platforms.
