Schools, colleges closed for 2 days; exams postponed
Srinagar, Mar 1: The government ordered closure of all the schools and colleges for two days in Kashmir.
The decision has been taken in view of the prevailing situation in Kashmir following the demise of Iranian Supreme leader, Ayatollah Khamenei.
Talking to Greater Kashmir, Minister for Education Sakina Itoo said the schools and colleges would remain closed for two days (March 2 and 3).
"We will assess the situation and take further decision accordingly," she said.
The elementary level schools were scheduled to reopen across Kashmir on Monday after winter vacations.
Meanwhile, Director School Education Kashmir issued an official order for closure of schools for two days.
"In the interest of administration and safety of students, it is hereby ordered that all the government and private recognised schools of Kashmir division shall remain closed on March 2 and 3, 2026," the order reads. "The order has been issued with the approval of the competent authority."
Director Colleges J&K, Prof Sheikh Aijaz Bashir officially announced the closure of colleges in Kashmir for two days.
"In the interest of administration, it is hereby ordered that all the government degree colleges, GCET and private colleges of Kashmir division shall remain closed on 2nd and 3rd of March, 2026," the order reads.
Meanwhile, the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) also announced the suspension of classwork for two days.
The University of Kashmir (KU) also decided to suspend the classwork for two days.
"The decision has been taken as per the instructions of the government," a KU official said.
The authorities at Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) also suspended classwork for Monday and postponed all its exams scheduled on March 2.
Besides the closure of educational institutions, the authorities also announced postponement of examination as well. All the examinations of Cluster University Srinagar (CUS) scheduled on March 2 and 3 were postponed while KU also announced postponement of all its exams scheduled for March 2.
Government Degree College Baramulla also postponed all its exams scheduled on March 2.
"It is notified for the information of all concerned candidates that all the examinations scheduled to be held on 2nd and 3rd March 2026 stand postponed. The fresh dates shall be announced separately," reads a notification issued by the examination cell of GDC, Baramulla.
The Islamia College Srinagar also postponed the exams scheduled for March 2, 3, and 4. "Fresh dates will be announced separately," a college notification read.
