Schools across Kashmir to resume classwork from Monday: Director School Education Kashmir
Srinagar, Sep 4: All the government and private recognised schools across Kashmir will resume the routine classwork from Monday, September 8, 2025, in view of the prevailing inclement weather.
An official communication in this regard was issued by the Director of School Education, Kashmir, Ghulam Nabi Itoo, in the backdrop of the recent inclement weather conditions and the subsequent flood situation, along with gusty winds.
“During the flood situation, several school buildings were submerged, and some structures sustained damage. It has become imperative to ensure the safety of school premises before the resumption of classwork,” the communication reads. In the wake of this, the Director of School Education, Kashmir, has ordered that the classwork in all government as well as private schools in the Kashmir division would commence from Monday, September 8, 2025.
“It shall be incumbent upon all Heads of the Institutions (HoIs) and staff to ensure proper cleanliness and sanitisation of classrooms and school premises in advance so that the classwork is conducted in a safe, clean, and hassle-free environment,” it reads.
Minister for Education Sakina Itoo on Wednesday issued instructions to the Deputy Commissioners of south Kashmir districts to submit a report of the buildings submerged in water.
“I have issued instructions to the DCs and Chief Education Officers (CEOs) to submit a report of the buildings that remained submerged in water and may have been damaged as well,” Itoo said.
She said that after going through the report, the department would take further steps accordingly.
“If the level of damage is severe, then the department will make the school functional from alternate accommodations till a permanent solution is made,” she said.
Director School Education Jammu (DSEJ) earlier issued instructions that all the school buildings which remained submerged in water in Jammu and other areas of the division will remain closed till certified safe by the competent authorities.
In an official communication issued to all the Chief Education Officers (CEOs), the DSEJ flagged concern over the safety of the staff and school children in the wake of the heavy rains and floods that severely impacted various parts of the Jammu region.
