Scarcity of drinking water hits Handwara village
Kupwara, Mar 9: Residents of Krumhora in north Kashmir’s Handwara have complained that the area is without potable drinking water for last several years and the concerned department was not taking up any concrete step to meet the demand of locals.
The residents said that they used to get water from Parinag Nagradi scheme. “But due to non- serious attitude of concerned department the scheme became non- functional. Later, we started to dig wells on their own to meet the need of drinking water. But due to the dry spell all the wells have dried up in the village. We pay Rs 1,000 o fetch water tanker from Nagradi some two kms away from our village," said a local.
He added that the residents have knocked at every official door but nothing happened. The residents have appealed authorities to redress their genuine grievance by way of providing them dirking water at the earliest.
Meanwhile, a senior official at Jal Shakti Department Division Handwara told Greater Kashmir that the village is s to get drinking water from a newly laid scheme. He said that due to a local dispute, water could not be provided to Krumhora village. He, however said that they were trying to settle the issue.
