SC orders proper disposal of leftover food to deter stray dogs
New Delhi, Aug 12: The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a circular directing that all leftover food on its premises be disposed of only in covered bins to prevent stray dogs from being attracted to the area.
The move follows reports of an increase in dogs roaming court corridors and entering lifts.
The directive comes a day after the Court ordered the Delhi government, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to remove stray dogs from all localities in the capital and shift them to shelters. The Delhi government has been asked to create such shelters within eight weeks, with adequate staff for sterilisation and immunisation of dogs. These facilities must also have CCTV monitoring to ensure no animal is released back onto the streets.
