Saurya Airlines plane crashes at Tribhuvan International Airport Kathmandu
New Delhi, July 24: A Saurya Airlines plane has crashed at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu, with casualties reported. The crash occurred during takeoff on a flight bound for Pokhara.
The accident happened after the plane suffered a runway excursion, according to TIA Spokesperson Subash Jha. Nineteen people, including crew members, were aboard the aircraft. Preliminary reports indicate that five bodies have been recovered from the crash site.
Captain M. R. Shakya has been rushed to the hospital for medical treatment. Thick smoke was seen billowing from the airport, and police and firefighters were conducting rescue operations.
Nepal experiences about one flight disaster annually. Since 2010, the country has witnessed at least a dozen plane crashes, In January 2023, a Yeti Airlines flight tragically crashed near Pokhara, resulting in the loss of all 72 people on board, including passengers and crew members.
