Jammu, Sep 20: J&K BJP president Sat Sharma (CA) on Saturday flagged off a consignment of relief material from Jammu for the victims of the recent incessant rains, cloudbursts and flash floods that wreaked havoc across several districts in a compassionate gesture towards the flood-hit families of Jammu region.

BJP vice presidents Rajeev Charak, Rakesh Mahajan, and Rekha Mahajan; general secretaries Sanjita Dogra and Baldev Singh Billawaria, Naresh Singh Jasrotia, Parduman Singh, and other senior leaders were present during the flagging-off ceremony.

The relief aid, comprising essential household items, food supplies, clothes and other necessities, has been sent to the worst-affected areas where people have been left struggling for survival.

The devastating floods, which claimed the lives of more than a hundred people, washed away houses, destroyed properties, household items and livestock, virtually throwing normal life out of gear for weeks together.

Speaking on the occasion, BJP president Sat Sharma said that the party was standing firmly with every distressed family in this hour of calamity. He said that the loss of human lives and property due to the recent natural disaster was deeply painful. He regretted that although one could not bring back the lives lost but as a responsible political and social organization, BJP felt it duty-bound to extend every possible support to those suffering.

“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has always emphasised that serving humanity in times of crisis is the biggest form of service and the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir is committed to carry forward that vision. We will continue to reach out to every corner of the affected areas until normalcy is restored,” Sharma said.

Sanjita Dogra said that the sufferings of people, including the women and children in the flood-affected areas were unimaginable. She said that the party's relief teams were reaching the affected with essentials. Baldev Singh Billawaria said, “This was not just relief work, it is our moral responsibility. The BJP family will remain on the ground until the last affected household gets adequate support.”
