Sanskrit language is soul of Indian culture: VC-CUJ

Jammu, June 14: Advocating the learning of Sanskrit language for children, Prof Bechan Lal, Vice Chancellor Cluster University Jammu (CUJ) Friday said that it (Sanskrit) was not just a language but the soul of Indian culture.

In view of the importance of Sanskrit language, there was a great need for parents to make it compulsory for their children to learn it (Sanskrit language).

He was addressing the gathering during a one day seminar organized by Sanskrit Department, Jammu University in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Shree Kashi Vidvat Parishad.

In the inaugural session, Head of the Department Prof Ram Bahadur Shukla planted a Rudraksha plant in the campus of the department in the presence of the chief guest Prof Bechan Lal.

As guest of honour, Prof Parikshit Singh Manhas chairman, JKBOSE said, “Sanskrit language is one of the ancient languages of J&K. Its knowledge will give a positive direction to children vis-a-vis their studies.”

Padmshri Prof Vishwamurthy Shastri, president of Shri Kashi Vidvat Parishad, expressed concern over the status of Sanskrit in J&K. He said, “J&K was a centre of knowledge and science along with Sanskrit language but today the situation here is disappointing.”

On this occasion, college professors from other districts of J&K also expressed their views on the deplorable condition of Sanskrit language in J&K and vowed to work together for the preservation of Sanskrit language.

In the second session of the program, as the chief guest, S P Saraswat, Nodal Principal Jammu said that the knowledge of Indian traditions was inherent in Sanskrit itself. He said, “We need to learn the lesson of preserving tradition from countries like Japan, Bhutan, Tibet etc.” 54 college professors as well as 100 research scholars participated in the programme.
