Safety First: Tourism authorities prohibit sledging on Gulmarg ski slopes
Baramulla, Jan 2: The Tourism department Kashmir has strictly prohibited the sledging activities on the ski slopes of Gulmarg to prevent accidents and ensure safety.
The order in this regard issued by the Assistant Director of Tourism Gulmarg, aims to facilitate the smooth conduct of skiing activities on the designated ski slopes.
“It has been observed that sledging activities on these slopes pose a serious threat to skiers, including children and untrained individuals who are undergoing skiing lessons,” reads the order.
Order further reads that the presence of sledges on ski slopes creates confusion and chaos, increasing the likelihood of accidents and mishaps.
“Therefore, it is hereby directed that sledging activities are strictly prohibited on the designated ski slopes where skiing activities are being conducted. All sledging enthusiasts are advised to use the adjacent tracks earmarked for sledging activities," the order states.
The order reads that the segregation of activities was essential to prevent any unfortunate incidents and to ensure the safety of all individuals on the slopes.
“All stakeholders, including operators, tourists, and the general public, are requested to adhere to this directive,” it reads. The order reads that any non-compliance shall invite strict action under the relevant provisions of law.
“The Ski Patrol Team and concerned officials are instructed to ensure strict implementation of this order and guide tourists and sledging enthusiasts to the designated tracks for sledging,” it reads.
The Assistant Director of Tourism Gulmarg has stated that the order has been issued in the interest of public safety and smooth conduct of winter sports activities in Gulmarg.
