Sabarmati hub to redefine urban connectivity
Ahmedabad, Feb 24: In a major push to seamless urban mobility, the Sabarmati High-Speed Multimodal Hub is taking shape in Ahmedabad as a flagship infrastructure project designed to integrate multiple modes of transport at a single location.
The hub is being developed as part of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail Project and is set to become India’s first fully integrated transport complex, bringing together rail, metro, road, and high-speed rail connectivity under one roof.
Envisioned as a first-of-its-kind facility in the country, the Sabarmati hub will integrate Indian Railways services, the Ahmedabad Metro network, national highway connectivity, and the upcoming bullet train corridor. The aim is to enable passengers to seamlessly switch between different modes of transport without having to navigate separate or distant terminals.
With the existing railway station, metro station, road access and the high-speed rail station converging at a single point, the project is expected to significantly enhance commuter convenience and intermodal efficiency.
The multimodal hub is being constructed as a modern multi-storey complex with well-planned utility and public spaces. Two floors will be dedicated to parking to accommodate both private and public vehicles. A designated transshipment level will facilitate smooth passenger movement across transport systems, while upper floors will include recreational and public utility spaces. Administrative offices will also be housed within the complex.
Being developed at an estimated cost of Rs 300 crore, the Sabarmati High-Speed Multimodal Hub is positioned as a futuristic model of integrated infrastructure planning. Once operational, it is expected to ease congestion, streamline passenger flow, and set a new benchmark for multimodal transport infrastructure in the country.
